C-Cases
Compact cassette cases
Spring 2010
C-Cases are cassette cases in the shape of CD-cases. These are a reflection on the digitalization and the eventual immaterialization of music. Internet has caused music record sales to plummet as people have turned their backs on the physical manifestation of recorded music. The compact cassette was the last of many analog media in the distribution of music and during the last fifteen years it has been pushed aside into the marginal of music consumption.
In 2010 nobody has a cassette rack or a shelf dedicated to cassettes in their home. C-Cases recognizes that emergency and offers a solution in the shape and size of a CD-case. C-Cases calls back a time when only twenty songs on a sixty-minute mixtape were enough to satisfy a friend in need of some fresh sounds. It pays homage to the indestructible fool-proof rec–stop-done medium that left its irremovable impression on one generation an a half. Like a carving in stone, the compact cassette is ancient, persistent and not ever going to disappear. |
